The Slumbering Masses: Sleep, Integral Medicine, and the Production of American Everyday Life

Quadrant: Health and Society

This project seeks to provide a history of capitalism, and a history of capitalism's relationship to medicine, as seen through the lens of the importance of the regulation of sleep. Tracing the history of sleep in post-industrial America, Professor Wolf-Meyer looks at the overlapping scientific, medical, industrial, and colonial projects that have made modern American sleep seem natural.
