Hot Spotter's Manifesto: Performing Transnatural Nature

Quadrants: Health and Society Environment, Culture, and Sustainability

Concerned with issues of ecology, nature, environmental degradation, and nuclear waste, this project examines the turbulent politics of environmental justice and military industry at specific “hot spots” around the country--important sites of the military-industrial complex such as Rocky Flats currently being bulldozed and erased from the land and turned into wildlife refuges and recreational areas. Assuming the role of "toxic tourist," Krupar marshals spectacles of toxic dumps, leaks, and mutations to explore worker’s rights, animal/human boundaries, environment versus government, indigenous activism, and Cold War legacies.
